Pre-School Program

Pre-school Overview

Thank you for your interest in Epiphany Preschool. In a world that is becoming increasingly competitive, we offer a place for every child to be a child, free to play and explore in the course of a child-oriented day. Our program provides a year full of learning, experiencing, growing and developing, while having a lot of fun in the process!

Parents are a very important part of our preschool program. We invite your active participation and your suggestions. We also welcome you into the classroom at any time, whether to volunteer or to share your special hobbies, interests or careers with the children. Your help and support, as well as your good ideas, are always appreciated!

Health Records

All children entering preschool must be immunized and submit to the school the standard Virginia School Entrance Health Form, signed by a physician or health department official.

Pre-school Philosophy

Philosophy

Epiphany Preschool interprets the general goal of early childhood education as being the development of the WHOLE child.

Spiritual Development

Our program is designed to help the child in the process of discovering, affirming, and developing his/her inherent goodness and relationship with God.

Intellectual and Physical Development

Using an activity-centered, "hands-on" approach to learning, Epiphany seeks to provide an environment that recognizes the child as an individual, responds to the child's natural curiosity, and fosters a creative approach to learning to develop and perfect a wide range of skills with which to meet future challenges.

Social Development

Our goal is to provide a classroom experience from which children will associate pleasure with learning and develop self-confidence by increasing chances of success while providing the space to fail without fear.

Pre-school Curriculum

The curriculum is not just the goals of the program and the planned activities but also the daily schedule, the availability and use of materials, transitions between activities and the way in which routine tasks of living are implemented. Young children are expected to learn through active and positive manipulation of the environment and concrete experiences that contribute to concept development.
The daily schedule is intended to provide a balance of activities with attention to the following dimension of scheduling:

  • Daily outdoor play, weather permitting
  • Altering periods of quiet time and active play
  • A balance of large muscle and small muscle activities is provided
  • Various small group or large group activities through most of the day
  • A balance of child-initiated and staff-initiated activity is provided. The amount of time spent in staff-initiated, large group activity is limited.

Developmentally appropriate materials and equipment that project heterogeneous, racial, gender, and age attributes are selected for use.
The school will use media, such as television, films, videotapes and computers that have been previewed by adults prior to use. Another option for activity is always available. No child is required to view or interact with the program; and the staff discusses what is viewed with children to develop critical viewing skills. Technology is incorporated as an integral part of the day.
The goal of the school is to emphasize concrete experiential learning and to achieve the following goals:

  1. foster positive self-concept
  2. foster spiritual development
  3. encourage children to think, reason, question, and experiment
  4. develop social skills
  5. encourage language development
  6. enhance physical development and skills
  7. encourage and demonstrate sound health, safety, and nutritional practices
  8. encourage creative expression and appreciation for the arts
  9. respect cultural diversity

  • Teachers and aides are required to further their growth and competence by continuing graduate/undergrad studies and/or inservice coursework and workshops while maintaining active membership(s) in Early Childhood Education Associations.
  • Teachers and aides possess a warm and loving approach to children to provide an optimum learning environment by helping the preschoolers to develop to their full capacity through stimulating encouragement and presence of creative challenges.
  • Teachers and aides nurture the formation of a Christian character in children by demonstrating a deep love and respect for the dignity of every child and directing, modeling and guiding children to live peacefully in a mixed and heterogeneous society.
